Course Modules
Whether you are new to powerboating or would like to increase your confidence in docking and maneuvering in close quarters, this course is for you. Boat Control On-Water Training Course Modules are designed to teach boat handling skills to recreational boaters or personnel hired to operate a vessel used in marine patrol. Taught by a NSBC Certified Instructor, the course will progress from safety gear and the pre-launch checklist to docking and refueling in close quarters; each maneuver is repeated advancing from idle speed to displacement mode, then planing mode.
A Certificate of Completion can be awarded for each module, but this is not an instructor certification course.

Each of the four course modules is approximately 3 hours long, but time length may vary depending on the age and boating experience of the student.
Vessel
A center console boat under 26’ is the preferred vessel.

*Students qualify for a certificate of completion after demonstrating the skills in each course.

Eligibility
Course Verification
Our boat lessons accommodate yachts from 18 to 80 feet and are conducted aboard your own vessel over several days. Experienced instructors will travel to your location, delivering personalized, hands-on training tailored to your specific needs.
The content of this course conforms to the American National Standard for on-water skills as verified through an independent third-party assessment process. It is imperative that the curriculum is adhered to; there can be no modifications or variations as that would change the course verification.
Recognized by the American National Standards Institute as American National Standards, the On-Water Power, On-Water Sailing, and On-Water Human-Propelled standards identify fundamental skills that entry level recreational boat operators should be able to demonstrate after receiving instruction. Prior to taking the course, students are required to complete a NASBLA-approved online boating safety course as well as meet the legal requirements of the state where the course is being held.
Powerboats up to 25 Feet
Boat Control On-Water Training Course Modules for Small Powerboats is a complete, hands on course for boats (typically up to 25 feet) with standard equipment. This program will level up your skills and teach you the basic skills to maneuver a vessel confidently and safely in crowded waterways, reducing your risk of collisions or accidents.
Powerboat Cruisers 26 feet and Up
Enhance your boating experience with our Skipper Large Powerboat course. This program equips you with both the knowledge and practical on-water skills necessary for a safe and enjoyable experience. Whether you're a new yacht owner or a seasoned boater seeking reasonable insurance rates, proving your competency is crucial.
The course is thoughtfully structured into two key parts: Knowledge and Skills. It is tailored specifically for "Cruisers" measuring 26 feet and above and covers both standard and advanced equipment and systems.
